Pottery Sale this weekend

(This is not my typical post. I just realized that folks were being led to the blog from links about the upcoming pottery sales)

Its that time of year again when I have my studio open house and Summer pottery sale. Any folks in shouting distance please come on over for a visit. The sale is in Athens GA, both Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Once again I’ve totally overdone it. I think my new nickname should be “Overkill Gillies”. I am a chronic oversupplier of pots for just about any sale I have been involved in. I think I have around 600 pots that need good homes, and this does not include the numerous seconds and discounted clearance pots I would also like to sell. Here are some of the images I took this morning of what kinds of things will be on display:

Deep red , red gold, and gold pots

Cone 10 pots from the kiln at Good Dirt

This is only a smattering of what will be at the sale. And the prices are extremely reasonable. Most mugs are $16, Moderately sized bowls from $14 to $30, and a wide range of other items, all under $100. I have mortars and pestle, pitchers, vases, jars, batter bowls, plates, juice glasses, soy bottles, oil & vinegar decanters, salt & pepper shakers, and plenty more.

Here is the map for directions to my studio at 572 Nantahala Ave:

About Carter Gillies

I am an active potter and sometime pottery instructor who is fascinated by the philosophical side of making pots, teaching these skills, and issues of the artistic life in general. I seem to have a lot to say on this blog, but I don't insist that I'm right. I'm always trying to figure stuff out, and part of that involves admitting that I am almost always wrong in important ways. If you are up for it, please help me out by steering my thoughts in new and interesting directions. I always appreciate the challenge of learning what other people think.

I like the displays arranged by glaze and color — nicely done. And the nickname is great… it abbreviates to the fluidly stylish “OKG”, so I’m using it from here on out!

    • Hold on pardner! I’m not that ahead of the game. Those shots were just of the pots I already dusted off. Just got done pricing them today, so I won’t get the displays set up until tomorrow afternoon or possibly early Saturday morning (depending on if it rains on Friday….). But I’m with you on coordinating the glaze/color of my displays (you get partial credit for inspiring me!). I have it all mapped out in my head. I think I can make it work.

Next post post sale: “Systematic for the people”.
